about UsSouth Dakota Planners Association was created in 1989, it evolved from the Association of Planners and Geographers. As the State Planning Bureau was dissolved and reorganized to fulfill other responsibilities in the late 1970’s, the state comprehensive planning assistance functions with local units of government ceased to exist as did the original state planning association called the South Dakota Association of Planning Officials. So, another institution was needed to help provide those functions. Over the years SDPA has hosted and co-hosted many trainings, a yearly conference and every 10 years or so a Western Plannner Conference. It has become a very active and strong group--training planners, planning commissioners, and participating in the South Dakota legislative process as a voluntary sounding board as state statutes are revised and updated. Financial Assistance: The cost to applicants seeking to take the AICP Exam for the first time is $510. In order to assist first time exam-takers with the cost of the AICP Exam, the South Dakota Planners Association will reimburse AICP Exam Fee Scholarships in the total amount of $510 once you have passed. The officers of the South Dakota Planners Association will review all applications received by the submittal deadline. The officers will make a final determination of the qualified scholarship recipients based on funding availability. Selected scholarship recipients will be notified. Checks will be sent once receipts are emailed to southdakotaplanners@gmail.com for reimbursement; Planning Experience Essay Fee and AICP Exam Registration Fee can be reimbursed separately because of varying registration windows for each.
